Hi hellooo, I’m finally back with a new recipe! Although there’s not too much to say about these cute little chocolate-y squares to be honest. Basically they’re the result of me being a little bit uninspired lately, in combination with me needing an afternoon ‚pick-me-up’ snack. And all that preferably without having a huge sugar crash afterwards.

So I just threw a bunch of stuff in a bowl, mixed it, baked it, coated it in dark chocolate and et voila: now we have this sweet & salty snack! And while this spontaneous baking session helped me get some of my motivation back, the combo of tahini, coconut blossom syrup and dark chocolate hit just the spot for my afternoon sweet tooth. A true win-win situation!

and now here’s the recipe for:

Sweet & Salty Chocolate Tahini Squares

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (50g) oats

  • 2 tbsp ground hazelnuts

  • a generous pinch of salt (depending on how salty you like it!)

  • a pinch of cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup (about 25g) chopped almonds

  • 1/3 cup (80g) natural unsweetened tahini

  • 1/4 cup (70g) coconut blossom syrup* (or more/less to taste)

  • 50g vegan dark chocolate

  • 1/2 tsp coconut oil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C and combine oats, ground hazelnuts, salt, cinnamon and chopped almonds in a bowl.

  2. Add tahini and coconut blossom syrup and mix everything until you get a sticky dough-like consistency.

  3. Transfer that dough into a small rectangular baking dish lined with parchment paper or use a wet spoon to press it onto a baking tray, preferably shaping some sort of big square. (Because the mass is rather sticky, I highly recommend you use either a silicone spatula or dip your utensils, like the spoon, in some water in between to prevent sticking!)

  4. Now bake the tahini base for about 10-12mins and let it cool completely afterwards.

  5. Melt down the chocolate together with the coconut oil and spread it onto the baked base. Then just decorate with some sesame seeds or additional salt flakes, cut into bars or squares and enjoy!

These are good for the soul and body. Or at least they helped in my case.

*Notes:

  1. You can technically swap out the coconut blossom syrup for any other liquid sweetener like maple, agave or date syrup. The consistency and taste might change a bit though! But if you just use your favorite ingredients, this doesn’t have to be a bad thing in my opinion, hehe. Maybe you’ll try these squares with a different nut butter too and discover your personal new favorite snack??
